 About Mrs. McMahan

The 2011-2012 school year marks my 9th year in education and my fourth at Highland Tech. I came into education with an extensive business background, having worked in Information Technology, Organizational Development and Human Resources. Types of businesses with which I have experience include grocery, utilities, accounting, consulting, police, banking and manufacturing.

My education includes an Associate's Degree in Computer Science from Gaston College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb College. Since starting to teach, I've gained full licensure through the Lateral Entry program and completed the MBA program through Gardner-Webb University.

I believe that learning is a lifelong activity. I enjoy partnering with other teachers, parents, and business within the community to give students a 21st century education.

I believe in values such as honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic. I incorporate into my classroom principles such as teamwork and continuous improvement. I hope my students will receive more than what is offered in the standard NC curriculum; I want them to understand the work environment and the attributes necessary to present themselves well to prospective employers. Their success is my success, and nothing less.

My family includes my husband Danny, daughter and son-in-law Penny and Jon and their children (and my grandchildren) Sarah (7), Jonah (5), and Hannah (due to arrive on or about December 9th); and son and daughter-in-law Joel and Caroline and their daughter (my granddaughter) Emery (3) and their son (my grandson) Caden (1).

My hobbies include reading, stained glass (see sample project), painting (art, not houses), and working just about any type of puzzle. I also love to keep the grandkids!

I am, as you can tell, a very proud Grammy!
